The asset categories control how the budget is constructed from the assets imported from the PSA.
Types of Asset Categories
Two levels of asset categories exist:
- Master Account Templates: they serve as the default versions applied on a company when it's first set up.
- Company Asset Categories: the Company's own asset categories
Policies
Each category has three set of policies:
- End of life
Controls what happens when the asset reaches a certain age that's calculated from its purchase date - Warranty coverage / renewal
Controls how the warranty costs are budgeted over time. - OS end of life
What to do when the OS reaches its end of life
Some options are available only for the company version of the asset categories and allow to exclude assets from the generated budget and other reports while still keeping track of them. Use those if you believe that a few hundred laptops create "noise" in the budget details.
Columns displayed in the asset's grid view can also be customized and moved around so that you show only the information you want.
Virtual assets
Flagging an asset category as "Virtual" remove the "warranty renewal" section (because the underlying physical hardware has a warranty, not the virtual part), but allows you to sync the end of life of the end on the OS End of life.
